IVM is one of the key players of Wood Lifecycle, the installation on wood created by the architect Giulio Ceppi of Total Tool Milano for Domotex 2019. The world’s most important fair for the flooring industry, a reference point in this sector for over thirty years, offers an in-depth look at the use of wood for floors and facings this year, specifically with the exhibition Wood Lifecycle. Organized as a fluid space, Wood Lifecycle presents an interactive and engaging itinerary in which leading brands like ILVA illustrate and highlight the characteristics, applications and qualities of wood products to meet the needs of the world of design, interiors and construction.

IVM Group, which sets the global standard in the field of wood coatings, takes part with the Ilva brand in Wood Lifecycle, an all-Italian project on the excellence of wood as a material, with its surprising capacity to provide an optimal response to the needs of the world of architecture and interior finishing.

At the core of the exhibition layout, Ilva presents some of its most innovative wood coating solutions, generated by constant activities of R&D. Research is the strategic driver that allowed the Group to stand out on an international level, with over 200 employees in this area operating at the Italian headquarters and in subsidiaries all over the world, in total synergy with the deeply rooted manufacturing culture of the national wood-furniture supply chain, with which the Group has interacted since its constitution.

The focus on research is one of the keys to success of IVM, a “pocket-sized” multinational with a turnover of more than 300 million euros per year – of which 8% are reinvested in research – which from Parona, in the Pavia district, has achieved a position of worldwide leadership just thanks to its ability to respond to and to foresee the technical, functional and aesthetic needs of an extremely wide and varied market. The focus on production processes and client requirements forms the basis of a sector such as that of wood coatings which enter in a wide variety of production processes, playing a strategic role in building their competitive advantage.

At the center of the Framing Trends section of Domotex 2019, Wood Lifecycle offers an analysis of the production phases of wood, examining strategic themes like sustainability, customization and hybridization of products. A 360° itinerary in the world of wood, covering the entire chain of supply, production and value: from the growth of the tree to the harvesting, the processing to the treatments, all the way to the final applications, maintenance, disposal and recycling. Italian companies are the protagonists of each and every step, applying practices of excellence to promote innovation in sustainable terms. A new, perfect narration of the flexibility of the Italian wood industry, in which IVM Group is one of the outstanding leaders.

ILVA wood coating solutions on display at Domotex:

HECOPUR BIO

As part of the commitment to reduce environmental impact of processes, products and services, Ilva has developed the Hecopur Bio line of eco-friendly coatings. This is an important innovation that combines high environmental sustainability with high levels of chemical-physical performance.

Hecopur Bio is the line of polyurethane wood coatings allowing to obtain a dry film with the highest percentage ever achieved of renewable raw material of botanical waste origin, not suitable for human nutrition.

These materials represent up to 50% of the composition of the film, as opposed to 35% for films made with other coatings, including water-base products. This level has been measured through Carbon-14 dating tests and certified by BETA ANALYTIC (*).

Offered in transparent and pigmented versions, as shown in the exhibit, with all the variations of color and gloss to adapt to the needs of any project, Hecopur Bio can be applied to furniture, complements, doors and paneling, or even to children’s toys. The products in the line comply with EN 71-3:2013 regulations certifying the safety of toys, also in terms of their chemical composition. The Hecopur Bio line is yet another example of Ilva’s commitment to the creation of innovative solutions with a particular focus on environmental sustainability and the health of both end-users and workers in every phase of the coating cycle.

(*) Carbon-14 dating, indicated on an international level as ASTM D6866 testing, permits measurement of the renewable biobased content of botanical origin in products. A standard codified test has been developed for this purpose. BETA ANALYTIC is a research laboratory that is a worldwide leader in this type of analysis, since 1979; it is based in Miami and collaborates with government agencies, scientists and engineers, as well as with companies all over the world.

LEGNO

A range of coatings created to protect wood, bringing out its natural beauty while at the same time making the material highly resistant to abrasion and liquids. The colors and grain remain perfectly intact.

OLIO UV

The innovative Olio UV stands out for its lack of emissions thanks to a dry residue level of 100% that generates no VOC emissions, and its 32% content of renewable raw material of botanical waste origin not suitable for human nutrition. These factors make it an environmental friendly product.

The particular focus on issues of sustainability is combined with a high level of productivity, thanks to the use of UV technology that significantly cuts down drying time, making this oil a purely industrial product applicable with rollers, with or without brushing, with higher levels of chemical-physical strength with respect to traditional oxidative oils. The excellent penetration of the wood brings out the beauty of its grain, for an appealing natural look.

SUPER SCRATCH RESISTANCE

Pigmented and transparent polyurethane finishes in all colors, conceived for industry and artisans, and developed to guarantee excellent scratch resistance and polishing performance, comparable to those of materials such as laminates.

All Ilva products are made in the production facility at Parona, in the Pavia district, a unique site in terms of size and innovation. Organized in an area of over 15 hectares, it has been designed to guarantee production standards among the highest in the world in both quantitative and qualitative terms, fundamental factors in a sector like that of chemicals that is profoundly impacted by problematic issues related to safety and environmental hygiene. The production processes are extensively automated with the precise aim of improving the quality of workmanship and of finished products, in complete compliance with legislation on personal and environmental safety.
